Nestled in a quiet residential street in Whitestone, Queens, this residence renovation reimagines a traditional single-family house into a refined yet approachable modern dwelling. The architectural goal was to transform a dated and compartmentalized structure into an open, light-filled home tailored for contemporary family living, while preserving its residential character and relationship to the surrounding neighborhood.
The design intervention focused on enhancing spatial clarity, improving circulation, and layering warm materials to elevate everyday rituals—cooking, gathering, relaxing—into moments of architectural delight. From the reworked ground floor plan to the updated upper levels, the residence offers a sequence of experiences that feel both elevated and effortless.
This renovation was approached as a “reframing” of domestic life—opening spaces both visually and functionally, rebalancing formal and informal zones, and introducing a quiet sophistication to the material palette.
Central to the concept is the open-plan kitchen–dining–family room axis, where walls were selectively removed to create sightlines across the home and foster social connection. Key areas such as the entry hall, stairwell, and living areas were subtly restructured to enhance spatial flow and daylight penetration. Upstairs, bedrooms and bathrooms were reconfigured for functionality, privacy, and comfort. The new master suite includes a serene dressing room and spa-inspired bath, conceived as a private sanctuary within the home.
“Reframe House” is an exercise in clarity, comfort, and contemporary living. Through careful architectural interventions and a cohesive design vision, the home is transformed
into a serene and stylish backdrop for family life— proof that the most impactful renovations are those that reimagine the familiar with intelligence and warmth.
